With the beginning of the fall assembly of the Saskatchewan Legislature Wednesday, a rally was held by SGEU over the noon hour at the Legislature building.
Hundreds of people arrived for the rally to protest government cuts in last springs Provincial budget.
Barbara Cape is the President of the Service Employees International Union West (SEIU-West), and spoke at the rally, saying the government’s cuts are unfair.
“I have seen private services cost our system too much money without providing the corresponding value and quality. We are paying twice brothers and sisters; once through our taxes for quality public services, and again in a fee-for-service scheme, and it is time to stop the cuts.”
The fall session of legislature will be Premier Brad Wall`s last, as he announced his retirement in early August.
On Tuesday, Wall took to twitter announcing Bill 40 will not be put in place, which would have allowed the government to sell 49 percent of a crown corporation without being considered privatization.
