Yesterday afternoon Max and I were playing fetch in the backyard when I realized I could probably put all of our summer gear away any day now. I can’t remember the last time we sat on the deck, so it’s not like we really need our patio furniture, unless we roll into some unusually warm weather, which could happen, but probably won’t.
My wife’s cherished Roughrider gnome is looking pretty lonely surrounded by all of the fallen leaves. I’ll definitely leave the bird bath out a while longer. This cooler weather might keep us from sitting on the deck, but it certainly doesn’t stop the birds from enjoying a drink and a quick splash everyday.
The flowers have all given up on hopes of warmer weather. There were a couple that just didn’t want to let go, so I kept watering them for a while, but even they look like they’ve given up over the last couple of days. Unless it’s a sunny day, I don’t even notice maple bugs gathering on the fence anymore, trying to gather what little heat is left in the fall sun.
Dead leaves. Dead flowers. Soon, everything will be packed up in the shed for another 5 months or so. I have never been a fan of fall or winter.
Good news? At 11:15 P.M. on March 20, spring is back!!
I’m already counting down the days.
