The Saskatchewan NDP are responding to alleged sexual assault claims about one of their own.
A Saskatoon woman alleged a former NDP candidate sexually assaulted her while she was volunteering for the party.
Nicole Sarauer, interm NDP leader, says it’s a critical issue not only the party is looking into, but society as a whole.
“It’s a really serious issue that both our party and wider society is taking a look at. We’re all, as a society grappling with what we can be doing better, and that’s reflected in the work we’re doing in our party as well.”
Sarauer says the party is doing work to ensure these concerns don’t arise again.
“We had a panel earlier this morning to talk about safe spaces and building a more inclusive party. I think that’s one step in a multi-stage process, and ongoing dialogue on how we can do better.”
Sarauer also spoke on the matter at the NDP convention in Regina this weekend.
