The Saskatchewan NDP party held a convention this weekend in Regina.
The convention included several discussion sessions, speeches from both Nicole Sarauer, Saskatchewan’s interm party leader, and Jagmeet Singh (Sing), the leader of the federal NDP party.
During the convention was a bear-pit session with the Provincial caucus, where supporters were able to ask caucus members questions.
David Forbes is the MLA for Saskatoon Centre, and says if elected in 2020, the NDP would look towards electoral reform and taking big money out of politics.
“We look at what happened in Alberta and BC for their signals,” Forbes says. “The signals in Alberta, Rachel Notley right away changed the big-money rules and they did like-wise in BC, so we would do exactly the same. Hopefully we can do that before, and then following that of course, taking a look at electoral reform to make sure that every vote counts.”
Vicki Mowat, the newest member to the NDP Caucus and MLA for Saskatoon Fairview, says education and job security are a main priority for the party.
“We need to be able to protect workers, we need to be able to make sure that jobs are protected,” Moway says. “This is all encompassing; there’s a role for education and training, and for us to be prioritizing education and training in the tech sector, to make sure that we can move forward as a province, and that people will have gainful employment as well.”
Other topics included the cuts to education, STC, and job security.
