Canadians, as a whole, are becoming less and less charitable; no less so in Saskatchewan. “CanadaHelps,” a national platform for donating and fund raising online says that, across the country, charitable donations are declining.
Only 33% of Canadians filing tax returns, claimed charitable donations in 2015.
They gave, on average, about $1,820.00.
In Saskatchewan, 39 per cent made donations in 2011. In 2015, that fell to 35 per cent.
However these fewer people gave more money, rising from about $1,715 on average in 2011 to $1,947 in 2015.
In Saskatoon, 41% gave to charities in 2011.
That fell to 38% in 2015. Regina fell from 41 per cent to 36% in 2015.
The dollar value of giving in Saskatoon rose from $1,930 to $2,414.
In Regina, it rose from $1,653 to $1,663.
