Public Safety Minister Ralph Goodale was in Regina Thursday for a flood risk round-table discussion with all levels of government in attendance.
Those in attendance focused on developing awareness strategies for Canadian home owners to understand their risk of potential flooding.
Goodale said the problem hits close to home in Saskatchewan.
“Of course here in Saskatchewan in three out of the last five years we’ve had significant flooding issues, there were major flooding issues earlier this year in Ontario and Quebec and in British Columbia and Atlantic Canada. Overland flooding has become a bigger and bigger risk problem for many communities,” said Goodale.
Goodale added this may be the first of many conversations in regards to flood risk in Canada
