Cameco is working to compensate workers affected by recent layoffs.
Over 800 workers were temporarily laid off at the uranium mines at MacArthur River and Key Lake at the beginning of the month.
In response, Cameco is paying out 70 percent wages and benefits to the affected workers.
Premier Brad Wall says Cameco is doing their part, it’s up to the province to support the workers and the provincial uranium industry.
“I do think it’s important for us in this province to send a clear signal we support uranium mining. We also need to send a support the nuclear industry because that’s the customer for our uranium.”
On the other side, interim NDP leader Nicole Sarauer is offering applause to the company for supporting the laid off workers during the time.
