The annual CityKidz Regina, Big DREAM Banquet was held last night at the Italian Club. There were about 200 people in attendance.
Our evening feast gave us a taste of Italy with salad, chicken, veggies and focacccia bread.
The evening isn’t just about gathering and enjoying a great meal, its about coming together to hear the stories of our city and how we, as community can assist a group that wants to move ahead in life, even as they endure roadblocks.
CityKidz runs in Hamilton (where it has much bigger numbers, it has been running for 25 years). Regina and Ottawa make up the Canadian cluster. The program helps build faith, hope and love in children 5 to 12 that live in under privilege communities.
The programs offered come in many forms including: home visits, birthday celebrations, the Summer 2 Remember program, Gift of Christmas, and a junior leadership. It’s the CityKidz Playhouse Theatre is where it all starts!
Door to door transportation is offered to kids enrolled. They are picked up and taken to Playhouse Theatre. While there they have lessons of faith, hope and love as well as a nutritional lunch. It is a safe environment to seek, reach and achieve confidence and build trusting relationships with siblings and family. All the while creating new friendships and growing as people.
Youth graduate the program at 13 years but are encouraged to stay and mentor others.
This banquet celebrates the work of the kids, the volunteers and the growth in Regina.
The road block – not enough people know about this and donations are needed to keep the program going.
More kids in North Central need to have this program. Why not jump on board at this very grassroots level!
Investigate their website, call to ask for more information on how you or your organization can get involved.
