One of the most successful holiday season safe ride services is back for it’s 34th year.
Operation Red Nose is availible via the App Store and Google Play, it offers people who are to impaired to drive a free ride home during the holiday season.
SGI Manager of Media Relations Tyler McMurchy says it’s a program they partner with closely in the province and something they highly recommend people take advantage of.
“We know that impaired driving is a tremendously significant traffic safety concern in Saskatchewan, it’s the number one killer of people on Saskatchewan’s roads,” McMurchy says. “When you are heading out for holiday celebrations, we really encourage people to plan a safe ride home and Operation Red Nose can play a role there.”
McMurchy says each year thousands of free safe rides home have been given.
“Last year, across Saskatchewan in the four communities in which Operation Red Nose operated last year, more than 1,100 rides were given,” McMurchy says. “That’s more than 1,100 people who did plan a safe ride home just through Operation Red Nose.”
This year the program has expanded to include Yorkton on top of Regina, Saskatoon, Prince Albert and the Battlefords.
