The attention on a Junior B game in Saskatoon will not be on the two teams playing, but the officiating crew.
The game between the Regina Silver Foxes and Saskatoon Quakers will be officiated by an all female crew.
The Saskatchewan Hockey Association’s Trent Cey says this is a first in Saskatchewan, and may be a first in Canada.
“I would think it is, but I don’t have record of every branch’s assignments. ” the association’s Trent Cey said. ” We’re one of the few provinces in Canada that have female officials working that high when it comes to men’s hockey.
The four women doing the game—Cianna Leefers, Michelle Stapleton, Jessica Coleman and Alex Clarke are considered to be amongst the elite female officials within Saskatchewan.
Cey says this is something the SHA has been working on for years, and he is glad to finally see the plan come to fruition.
He adds that numbers this year show there are close to 300 females working as hockey officials in Saskatchewan which is tremendous to see as there has been growth over the last five years.
