Regina Transit is bringing back what has become a New Year’s Eve tradition.
On December 31, Reginans will be able to once again ride the bus for free from 7 PM until 2:30 AM in an attempt to keep those who have maybe celebrated too much from getting behind the wheel endangering themselves and others.
Darcy Koch with Regina Police says this is a very significant program as far as he and the department are concerned.
“This is a very significant program, especially one that has been around for 30 years,” Koch said. “The fact there is a free option for people who are drinking and driving is tremendous, and I would encourage all who will be drinking New Year’s Eve to take advantage because we will be out in full force again around the city. Our goal is to have zero impaired drivers, and this will help in that goal being attained.”
Around 2000 people took advantage of the service last year.
