22 of Canada’s biggest cities were represented in Toronto last Thursday at the Big City Mayor’s Caucus.
Regina Mayor Michael Fougere was in attendance, and joined in on discussions on cannabis legalization, housing, and US trade and relations.
Fougere says it’s important for Regina to be at the table during Big City Mayors’ meetings.
“We’re a big city, we have a lot of great things happening in our city, we have a lot of great things happening in our city,” Fougere says. “we’re a hub of innovation and growth in our country, and we, like any other city, have a lot to bring to the table.”
Fougere says there was a ‘thinking long-term’ mindset at the meeting.
“We’re looking at sustainability, we’re looking at ideas of how to deal with driver-less cars and what that means for the future,” Fouger says. “More importantly, how can we adapt our city to seize upon those opportunities, so it was more of a longer-term visioning what we had (Thursday) in Toronto.”
Fougere says the Big City Mayors’ Caucus is Canada’s strongest voice when it comes to urban issues, and believes issues in Regina will be heard as well.
