Some people in Saskatchewan are getting scammed – by text.
SaskPower says customers have flagged attempts by fraudsters to contact them via text, pretending to be the Crown utility.
The scam indicates SaskPower needs banking details to issue a refund owed to the customer.
According to a news release, SaskPower NEVER sends financial transactions through text messaging, email or social media.
The utility says scammers will try to lure you by offering a refund or asking for personal information to get money. This can also lead to identity theft.
Scammers will include links in their messages which have no mention of SaskPower.
