The biggest female hockey tournament in Western Canada starts Thursday in Wilcox as the Mandi Schwartz Memorial Tournament gets underway.
16 teams from across Western Canada are in attendance including the host Notre Dame Hounds, the Regina Rebels and the defending Esso Cup national champions—the St. Albert, Alberta Slash. The event, now in its 18th year was named after former Notre Dame Hound Mandi Schwartz in 2011.
Games will be watched by scouts from over 30 schools in Canada and the U-S with games going in Milestone as well as Wilcox starting at 8 AM Thursday morning. The final goes Sunday at 3:30.
After accepting a scholarship at Yale University, she was diagnosed with leukemia.
After a long battle with the disease, she passed away in 2011.
