Ovarian Cancer Canada has received a big holiday gift from Regina shoppers.
The organization received a cheque at the Normanview Shoppers Drug Mart for over $32,000 from Shoppers Drug Mart, collected from customer donations during the company’s Christmas fundraiser.
Associate owner of Normanview Shoppers Janette Kelly says the cause is near and dear to both her and the company.
“Shoppers’ initiative is to help womens health and this is very important.”
Member of the Board of Directors for Ovarian Cancer Canada and cancer survivor Anne Chase says the funds are absolutely critical to funding research into the disease and raising awareness.
“We still do not have an early detection test for ovarian cancer,” says Chase.
“So that is why it’s so important for us to do everything we can, to make women aware of signs and symptoms.”
Chase says in Saskatchewan this year, 80 to 100 women will be diagnosed with ovarian cancer, many of whom will not survive.
