Every year there is that one gift that is so popular you just can’t seem to get your hands on one. It’s the one that every kid out there wants. This year it’s Fingerlings, whatever they are. Last year it was Hatchimals, which ironically, you can find everywhere this Christmas! I’m old enough to remember the mad dash parents made into the store to snatch up Cabbage Patch Kids. Thank goodness I never wanted one. You can add Furbies to that hard to find list as well.
When my wife was doing our online shopping this year she tried to get some Fingerlings. We knew you couldn’t find them in the stores, but we thought we would have no problem buying them online. Wrong. Sorry kids, no Fingerlings this year.
My favorite toy that I got for Christmas was the Electro Shot Shooting Gallery. It was a big plastic enclosed game with targets at one end and a gun that was fed metal pellets at the other. All you did was shoot at targets, some of which moved. I can still remember how much fun I had with that thing! I don’t know whether or not that was hottest toy that year, but it sure was for me.
I don’t know if my mom ever had as hard a time buying a popular gift as we do nowadays, but I can’t imagine that part of Christmas has changed much. What has changed is how we go about buying those gifts. My mom had to go from store to store to store to get her shopping done. Now, my wife goes from website to website to website.
Although Christmas shopping has become a whole lot more convenient, it certainly hasn’t gotten any cheaper!
Merry Christmas. I hope you find every gift you wished for under your tree this year, unless you wanted Fingerlings. In that case you’re going to be, as my mom would say, S.O.L.!
