In this day and age of new streaming services and new technology, there’s still something special…something nostalgic…about the old technology. Last night I decided to resurrect some of that old technology in my home. My VCR!
I’ve carted this machine around everywhere I’ve lived over the years, and was still collecting VCR tapes up until a few years ago when I realized two things. 1) I have no more space and 2) why the hell am I collecting VHS tapes anyway? Which led me to another epiphany, why the hell am I hooking up an old VCR? Turns out, I don’t have the the correct cables with it for the my new TV so I don’t think the two are actually compatible.
A lot of good times with family and friends were spent gathered around the VCR watching movies and heaven help you if you ever forgot to rewind a tape and were caught by either the movie rental store or your parents! I think that was the biggest pet peeve of the 1990’s….tapes that were not rewound. Another great past time was the entire family getting into a yelling match over how to reset the VCR clock after a power outage. Ohhhh the memories!
I guess it’s time to accept reality and finally part ways with the machine. How many of you still have, and use, a VCR yet?
P.S. The last VCR rolled off the assembly line in July of 2016 but one can still find them for sale on websites such as eBay, retailing for anywhere between $13 to over $200!
