A local animal rescue group says a rare bird is looking at a long road to recovery.
A snowy owl sustained a broken wing, severe head injury and a concussion after being hit by a truck and lodged inside it’s grill.
Director of Rehabilitation for Salthaven West Megan Lawrence says the bird is responding well to treatment.
But despite the positive early signs, he Bwon’t be going anywhere for a while.
“His bandage will stay for about 10 days to two weeks,” she says. “Once we’ve determined that the bone has stabilized, we can remove that bandage and start doing some physiotherapy.”
Lawrence says following that, test flights will occur once the owl, named Tahoe, is strong enough. However, she says it will be a while before he’s released back into the wild.
“It will be at least six weeks before he is cleared for release.”
