When Chris Getzlaf announced his retirement after 11 seasons in the CFL Thursday, many of his former teammates were there.
Guys like current Riders Dan Clark and Brendon Labatte were on hand as were former Riders Paul Woldu and Mike McCullough. Another one of those on hand was someone who shared many a memory in a Rider uniform with Getzlaf. That was Weston Dressler.
The current Winnipeg Blue Bomber says Getzlaf is someone who really helped him when he first came to the CFL.
“He’s a guy who I learned a lot from as an American coming up to Canada and learning the Canadian game.” Dressler said. “Listening to the Canadian guys like him really helped me. That was one thing I took from him early on in my career.”
Dressler added Getzlaf has become one of his best friends, and it will stay that way for the rest of his life.
