Saskatchewan’s Premier is cautiously optimistic about the merger of Potash Corp. and Agrium with the head office in Saskatoon for Nutrien.
Brad Wall said Potash Corp. made some promises to keep the head office in the province after the failed takeover attempt by BHP Billiton.
“It was very important to us to confirm that the registered head office is in Saskatoon and certainly that is the case, it’s also important for either the CEO or the senior operating officer be living and working in Saskatoon,” Wall said to reporters on Thursday.
Wall said that is happening with Nutrien and Saskatoon will actually see an increase of corporate employees by 15 per-cent.
Nutrien has operations in Calgary, Denver and Chicago but Saskatoon will be the only centre that will experience an increase.
The Premier says it is important for whoever takes over his position to be vigilant and monitor the situation to make sure the commitments are maintained.
