Saskatchewan farmers heard some good news from Federal Agriculture minister Lawrence MacAulay Monday.
MacAulay says U.S. farmers are solidly behind the NAFTA trade deal.
MacAulay spoke in favour of the NAFTA deal at the American Farm Bureau annual meeting, saying trade has quadrupled since the deal was signed 23 years ago.
He says he had a great response in support of the agreement.
“They fully understand what NAFTA has done for North America,” MacAulay said in a conference call to North American media. “I can tell you they are not humble in indicating how they feel.”
MacAulay says 80 U.S. farm groups have voiced strong support for NAFTA and he remains hopeful a new deal can be reached.
