The provincial government is taking steps to make affordable housing a reality in the Saskatchewan capital.
Minister Responsible For Housing Paul Merriman was on hand Tuesday afternoon to announce the opening of the most recently completed affordable housing project, a 28 unit build in Harbour Landing.
Merriman says offering safe affordable housing helps offer a better quality of life.
“Living in a great community, living in a community where you feel safe and the house is a good quality,” he says. “You don’t have to worry envelope of the house.”
Mayor Michael Fougere was also in attendance. He’s thankful the province is investing in affordable housing for one of Canada’s fastest growing cities.
“This is great news for the city,” he says. “76 units, $19 million investment is really important.”
One of the beneficiaries of these new units is Inge Dombrowski, who says having access to affordable housing has already improved her quality of life.
“I’m living in a better area, a safer area than where I was previously living,” she says. “It’s also enabled me to go to university.”
