Emergency crews in Weyburn had their hands full Wednesday night dealing with a fire at Mryglod Steel in the city.
Weyburn Fire Chief, Simon Almond told 620 CKRM they were only one block away at the fire hall completing training exercises when they noticed the blaze.
“We had our paid on-call firefighters in last night for training, and they spotted it and quickly took a truck out of the hall. It was about 8:00 p.m. or 8:15 p.m. when that happened. Upon arrival there was a significant working fire, a pile of scrap wire both aluminum and copper about 30 feet deep and 30 high was burning,” Almond said.
Traffic was re-routed in the immediate area and crews remained on the scene until 1:30 a.m. Thursday morning.
No injuries were reported.
The cause of the blaze is still under investigation.
