Regina NDP MP Erin Weir has been temporarily suspended from his duties after allegations of harassment.
Federal NDP leader Jagmeet Singh made the announcement this afternoon saying the allegation is one he is taking seriously and one that is troubling.
Singh adds Weir will remain a member of caucus while an independent investigator looks into the matter.
The allegation involves “harassing behaviour” towards a female party-member.
Weir issued a statement today saying as politicians, we are placed in a position of public trust. We are, and should be, held to the highest possible standards and it is absolutely right that our party has a process to investigate any allegations of harassment, “However, I do not know what is being alleged. I am confident that I have not harassed anyone and welcome a prompt investigation to clear my name.”
Weir captured the seat in Regina-Lewvan after a tightly contested race in the 2015 federal election.
