Finance Minister Donna Harpauer, will get to keep her role with the provincial government, which is good news for getting the budget out on time.
Harpauer said they will have challenges such as meeting Premier Scott Moe’s promise to reinvest 30-million-dollars back into education, but she expects the budget to still be released sometime in March.
Harpauer said the provincial finance team was able to work ahead a little bit in order to keep their deadline.
“We’ve just gone ahead with the budget as if there was going to be no change,” Harpauer said.
“However keeping in mind there has to be some flexibility because of the leadership race, we knew whoever the new leader was was going to have some promises. So we built a budget with flexibility in it, now we can do some final numbers and get it before our new premier,” she said.
It was announced on Friday that the MLA for Humboldt-Watrous would remain the finance minister under the new premier.
