The Saskatchewan broadcasting community is in mourning after the sudden loss of accomplished reporter Manfred Joehnck.
Joehnck, died Monday in the Battlefords while covering the Gerald Stanley trial for MBC Radio.
He is best known for his time as an anchor for CTV Regina and as 620 CKRM’s News Director for 14 years before that.
Our own Jim Smalley, has known Joehnck, or “Manny” as many called him, for 40 years, and spent 14 of those years working along side him at Harvard Regina.
Smalley recalled a talented passionate broadcaster with a skill for teaching his co-workers.
“He had an amazing ability to put on paper in words what we’re trying to explain so readily and easily to the public,” Smalley said.
“He also had fantastic skills as a manager. He helped me with my writing, my interviews, he was just one of those all around great news people. He will be missed,” Smalley added.
A memory that Smalley said will always remain vivid in his mind, was Joehnck offering to work Christmas by himself before his children were born.
Joehnck was 64, an official cause of death has yet to be made public.
