Andrew Scheer has said he will not use the new gender neutral lyrics when he sings “O’ Canada”.
The Senate passed a bill last month to change the line “in all thy sons command” to the gender neutral “in all of us command”, but Scheer is disappointed with how the government went about it.
“I believe that many Canadians are upset at the fact that this happened the way it happened,” Scheer said.
“It happened so quickly without real scrutiny or consultation, it does not belong to any one member of parliament or any one political party, it’s a national institution and our national anthem that we’ve been signing for decades,” Scheer added.
The Conservative Leader, and Regina-Qu’Appelle M.P, said the bill has not yet received Royal Assent, and until it does, he’ll use the old lyrics.
