I was a little bit surprised when I learned Best Buy plans on discontinuing their CD music sales by July 1st of this year. It’s all thanks to more and more people buying music digitally. It got me thinking about the early 90’s when CD’s were first coming out. I actually thought that CD’s wouldn’t take over cassettes as the choice of music for most people because cassettes were smaller and easier to handle. Boy, was I wrong! As soon as I got my first “discman” and my first CD I realized CD’s were much better and here to stay!
I remember my very first CD like it was yesterday! As a kid I LOVED the Beach Boys. Sometimes I think I’m a baby boomer stuck in a millennials body, but the Beach Boys were awesome. It was an all time greatest hits compilation featuring Barbara Ann, Help Me Rhonda, Surfer Girl, and Fun Fun Fun. I still have the CD to this day and still listen to it regularly.
Many special moments in our lives can usually be traced, or linked, to a certain song that was playing at the time. For years CD’s have helped shape special moments in peoples lives and now their future is in jeopardy. Do you remember buying or receiving your first CD?
