Regina’s Crokicurl surface is now open for Regina residents to enjoy.
The surface will be open during the evenings in Victoria Park for people to try the new game.
Former Canadian Curling Champion Pat Simmons was on hand for the opening of the surface, and says he is hoping people come out to enjoy the rink.
“Obviously with the Brier coming up, and even without, it’s something fun for families to come out and do and play, and try if they’ve never tried curling or obviously even Crokicurl which is fairly new,” Simmons says. “It’s a lot of fun, it’s good.”
The Crokicurl surface opens just under a month before the Tim Hortons Brier comes to Regina.
Simmons says this is something to do for people in town for the Tim Hortons Brier.
“It’s a great location here in Regina and if it’s not -40°C with the windchill I think it’s great to be out here and to be active,” Simmons says. “And like I say, have some fun, learn a little bit about it, or have some friendly competition with your friends, that’s for sure.”
The Grand opening for the Crokicurl surface was supposed to take place Monday, but was delayed due to extreme cold weather.
Members of the Saskatchewan Roughriders will also be on hand for Wednesday for the Crokicurl ice.
