New numbers on grain movement have angered Saskatchewan farmers.
The latest figures show CN supplied 34% of the hopper car orders and CP (Canadian Pacific) Rail 69% in the week ending February 11th.
The chair of the Western Canadian Wheat Growers Association, Jim Wickett, is disappointed with grain movement this winter.
“Last time, it took angry farmers phoning their MP’s,” he said. “Quite frankly, it’s time again for farmers to get on the phone.”
“Phone MacAuley’s office, phone Ottawa’s man in Saskatchewan Ralph and light up his phone lines and tell him what you think about the rail movement.”
Wickett is calling on the senate to give speedy passage of the proposed grain transportation legislation, which provides for expanded interswitching and reciprocal penalties for rail and grain companies.
