This week on the Farm Fresh Song of the Day, we featured a new song from the Snake Oil Salesmen, a group that hails from the Queen City. The second single entitled “Long Way to Go” is from their Dead and Breathing album which was released last fall. It’s and album that deals with some tough subject matter at times.
“The whole idea of music healing is what brought this all together because writing those songs and playing them is us healing in our own personal way and, so, those songs are really the product of what we’ve been doing and how we kind of use our songs as metaphors for life, really,” stated band member Danny Blondeau.
The group is made up of four Reginans, Sterling Brass, Danny Blondeau, Cade Stewart, and Shane Bellegarde. They call Regina home now, but come from small towns and First Nations from across Saskatchewan. The group formed in 2011 and have been telling stories and sending messages ever since.
Not only was their latest song “Long Way to Go” produced in Regina, it was a deeply personal one for writer Danny Blondeau.
“It touches on loss and death,” Blondeau explains. “One thing that happened to me young in life was the loss of my father, so kind of unknowingly just put a song together, it ended up being in that theme and about that, but it also really touches on loss in general, so I think it’s very relatable for people who have lost anyone or anything in any sort of circumstance.”
The band even has a video for their latest song which was shot in Regina. You can see the video and hear the song by clicking here.
My thanks to Danny Blondeau and Sterling Brass for swinging by 620 CKRM for a visit this week!
