An approximate 78-million-dollar net operating budget was approved by Regina City Council Tuesday night.
On top of that, close to 5-million-dollars in capital funding is being allotted for the RPS to use for what they need for capital investment.
Chief Evan Bray said while the city denied his request for funding for 34 new officers, he and his staff made it work.
“We found 20 police officers,” Bray said.
“Not that they were hiding in a corner somewhere not doing any work, they were already doing work but we were able to re-deploy officers in a way that enhances public safety, that enhances visibility in the community, and we did that knowing that it wasn’t going to be possible to come here tonight and seek an additional 20 through the budget,”
The old STC building, which will soon become the new Regina Police Headquarters, was not included in the capital funding given to RPS.
