SGI is announcing an out of court settlement has been reached with two Saskatoon bars that served a Saskatoon woman alcohol before she killed four people in a drinking and driving case
Catherine McKay had been drinking at the two bars (Industrial Kitchen & Bar and Crackers Licensed Cocktail & Dining Room) before leaving early on the morning of January 3, 2016. She tried to cross Highway 11 at Wanuskewin Road and ended up hitting a vehicle being driven by 34 year old Jordan Van de Vorst. The crash killed Van de Vorst along with his wife Chanda and their two young children.

SGI had filed a statement of claim last summer saying the two establishments were negligent by continuing to serve McKay alcohol and not protecting her or calling police leading to the tragic events.
Under the agreement reached by SGI and the two establishments, terms of the settlement will not be disclosed, but SGI’s Tyler McMurchy says they are satisfied with the results.
McKay pleaded guilty to four counts of impaired driving causing death in June 2016. She was sentenced last summer to 10 years in prison.
