Regina’s Mayor has responded to Tuesday’s federal budget.
Michael Fougere spoke to media after debating the city’s budget last night, and said the federal budget provides optimism for first nations jobs training and housing.
However Fougere admitted he needs more time to review the details after dedicating most of his time to Regina’s budget.
“I need more time to actually read it before I can provide greater comment,” Fougere said.
“The general sweep in where they’re going is something I think municipalities will be interested in having, but there needs to be some profound shifts in support for Indigenous communities, I think that’s been said in this budget. Now what actually comes to pass we have to wait and see.” Fougere said.
Gender pay-equity was a big part of the federal budget, however Finance Minister Bill Morneau did not announce a number when it comes to financial commitment to the matter.
