A move from SGI to stop using a non productive call rate for Saskatchewan firefighters is receiving praise from all corners of the province.
The move enables firefighters to be compensated at a rate of 913 dollars per hour spent at a collision, compared to a rate of 549 an hour, which SUMA President Gordon Barnhart says is a lower and non productive rate.
He also said this a great move which will greatly benefit small fire departments in Saskatchewan.
“It’s very good news for us that now, they’re all being deemed as productive calls.”
However, despite that, there is one more thing Barnhart is hoping SGI will do to help these fire departments.
“We have one further request,” he said. “And that would be to increase it (the rate) to roughly $1200.”
As it stand now, the increase from $549 to 913 is projected to raise over $510,000 in reimbursements solely for the province’s fire departments.
