Nothing like a winter storm to see Saskatchewanians at their best! Everywhere I looked in the city yesterday I witnessed people helping people. Neighbours helped shovel snow, strangers helped others push their car out and, in my case, Reginans helped me figure out the impressive and complex transit system so I could get home!
Last night after my supper which included a hearty bowl of baked potato soup, it was my turn to pay it forward. In the parking lot near my home a cab driver got stuck after delivering a fare. Two other neighbours and I pushed, grunted, and maybe even broke a little wind trying to get him out. After several back and forths and lots of grunting we got him loose and he was on his way. It felt good. My legs and arms did not feel as good as the spirit!
It’s no different in rural Saskatchewan either. I remember farmers taking their tractors and snowplows/blowers over to their neighbours to make sure they could get out with ease. I know this still happens out there.
Not only did this snow bring out the best in Saskatchewanians it also brought a feeling of optimism…maybe relief…that we finally have precipitation! Fingers crossed this isn’t the only moisture we get this winter/spring. After seeing what I witnessed these past couple of days, it reinforces the fact we live in Canada’s greatest province.
