Last week’s heavy snowfall has raised projections for a near normal to normal spring runoff across most of Saskatchewan.
The Water Security Agency says the one exception for below normal runoff is a band stretching southeast from Kindersley through Swift Current and Moose Jaw, and down to Estevan.
With the early March snowfall of 20 to 45 centimeters, normal runoff is expected through North Battleford, Saskatoon, Regina and Yorkton.
Above normal runoff is forecast in the Prince Albert, Hudson Bay, Nipawin area and the extreme southwest corner of Saskatchewan.
While flows will be higher than normal in these areas, flood levels are not anticipated at this time.
The Water Security Agency says additional spring moisture may be necessary to resolve potential farm and municipal water supplies in the southern grainbelt.
The Agency says all major water supply reservoirs will have adequate supplies this year, due to previous years of high runoff and careful water management.
Good flows on the Saskatchewan River system are expected this year due to an above average snowpack in the Rockies.
