Grain movement is expected to be among the issues discussed at the Rural Municipalities annual meeting, which opens this Wednesday in Regina.
President of SARM Ray Orb says his organization will be meeting with the two main railways, CP and CN, to discuss poor winter performance for grain shipments.
“CN has had some logistical problems with, not on the engine power, but with staffing issues,” he said. “So they’re promising us to improve that as they’re training new people.”
“The problem with that is some of them won’t be back on the job for at least another a number of weeks, or maybe months in some cases.”
Orb also anticipates rural crime will be high on the agenda. Close to 2,000 rural delegates will attend the SARM annual meeting, which opens on this Wednesday and wraps up Friday in Regina.
