The Regina Chamber of Commerce is telling us something that many already know and want.
Regina wants an air-route direct to one or more major American markets re-established
In a question posed in a recent survey, chamber members were asked if they would support a direct flight from YQR to a major American city. CEO John Hopkins says the final results indicated that was an overwhelmingly strong yes.
“There’s alot of support for a direct flight to the United States, Denver seems to be a good option,” said Hopkins.
90% said they’d wholly support flights out of the Saskatchewan capital down to the Colorado metropolis.
Now, believe it or not, the city used to have that service before it was discontinued a few years ago. Hopkins says since the departure of the service, the economic picture has improved significantly.
“The difference is the economy has picked up a little bit here in Saskatchewan,” he said. “The Canadian dollar, a little bit, the price of oil has changed a little bit and the other big thing is the competition that was here before, Delta, is not here.”
Hopkins notes re-establishing direct flights to the US would be huge for business, as they have heard over and over again the challenges a lack of international service presence now presents for commuters leaving out of YQR.
