Regina residents are encouraged to attend the 19th annual family day in recognition of the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.
The event is being held Sunday at the Italian club, and is organized by Spring Free from Racism and the Saskatchewan Association on Human Rights.
Spring free from Racism president Barb Dedi says the event has grown significantly over the years.
“When we first started 19 years ago, we were in a very, very small room and we had about 150 people attend, we had just a few performers,” Dedi says. “It’s now reached 5,000 people attending the event in the day, people come and go, and we have hundreds of performers in that day.”
Dedi talks about the purpose of the day.
“We put this on every year to recognize the day, but also to bring forth a whole array of different cultures that provide entertainment all day.”
The event takes place at the Italian club, and runs from 12 until 7:30.
There is no charge for admission.
