The Saskatchewan agriculture ministry is making changes to its extension services this week.
Agriculture Awareness Manager Krystal Aulie says extension services will focus on three key areas of research and technology transfer, program delivery and public trust.
She says the ten main regional offices will remain open but satellite offices in Shaunavon, Assiniboia, Estevan, Moosomin, Wadena, Meadow Lake and Lloydminster will be closed.
She says the satellite offices were under used.
“Our clients just weren’t really using that service,” she admitted. “We prefer to make tje phone call or have our specialists come out to meet them at their farms.”
“So, that was just an offering that wasn’t really meeting the needs of clients and by cutting that, we’re able to redeploy it to more useful services.”
Aulie says there are no job losses but resources will be shifted to ensure farmers have access to the latest production information.
