I realized last night that I need to get out more. I know! But it’s true. I need to do things that are good for the soul, like meeting up with friends, whether its out for a walk or catching up over coffee.
Last night I met up with two friends and we talked about our jobs, family and things that have been going on. One person is moving to Saskatoon with an exciting new job opportunity, the other is on maternity leave and they are building a house out of town. And then there’s me – work, work, work! We do have one thing in common and that was belonging to an Optimist club in Regina.
The three of us have stepped away from the club for various reasons.
Over the course of a couple hours the topics that came up included working competence, home ownership, emotional journeys and how many coffee shops are in Harbour Landing!
As part of the Regina Downtowners Optimist Club we were involved in projects for youth, this is the mandate of the organization. Our committee of 5 or 6 pulled together an event raising money for Camp Circle of Friends two years ago. We had fun with Wigs & Wine, but it was a one off. Each one of us using a different set of skills and contacts to bring things together for that evening. When you have zero budget – that’s always fun!
I’m happy to know that the three of us can come together and sit down to chat about that experience as well run of the mill stuff.
At about 6:30, I started to wonder “where are these people coming from”! The hip, cool kids now sitting around us chatting by the fireplace and not checking their phones! And you know what, we weren’t on our phones either! Glad to see that coffee stops other than Tim’s and Robins are still a thing!
Here’s a side idea! Once the weather warms up .. and yes it will, how about this … A Coffee Kiosk or truck this summer on the east side of Wascana Park. Right! Set up close to washrooms, yet organic enough it can wheel away after a few hours, maybe 1/2 way around the lake. It might be a destination point – somewhere to meet your friends before you trek off around the lake!
Alas, there might be environmental impact issues as per garbage. I don’t understand how people still just throw garbage down on the ground like someone else will pick it up! Folks that doesn’t happen .. its like cleaning up after YOUR dog – just do it! Don’t leave that crap for someone else! Got it!
Is Regina up for that this summer – coffee on wheels in Wascana.
Anyway, it was great seeing Shane and Michelle. Shane leaves the U of R to take up a new job with Federated Co-op in Saskatoon and Michelle & Josh’s New Year baby, while not out for the visit, is delightful! And well, you know what I’m up to.
Do yourself a favour, re-connect with people – leave the phone in the car, unless you are showing people pictures of your babies or holidays. And let’s be People people again.
