Saturday afternoon at 1 I tuned in to watch the Philadelphia Flyers host the New York Rangers. I usually don’t watch either of those teams, but it was the first game on the schedule that day and I wanted to watch the pre-game tribute the teams had planned in honour of the Humboldt Broncos. Things were just about to start when my cable suddenly froze. Talk about timing. By the time I had rebooted my cable box, it was all over. The same thing happened for the rest of the day and even carried over to Sunday morning. This was getting frustrating.
After rebooting my cable box 6 or 7 times on Saturday and then a few more times on Sunday, I decided to call SaskTel to find out what in the world was going on. By 7:15 Sunday morning I was on the phone with Ricky from SaskTel tech support.
Ricky was a very personable guy who knew his stuff. After playing around upstairs for about 10 minutes I headed downstairs to our SaskTel modem, following directions very carefully trying to rectify the situation.
After I was finished in the basement I came back up and turned the TV back on. Ricky stayed on the line with me for the first few minutes to make sure the problem was solved. When things looked like they were back to normal, I thanked Ricky for his help and got ready for a problem free day with my television. By then it was about 7:45.
Before hanging up, Ricky told me that he would call me back in two hours just to make sure everything was still good. Now, that’s good customer service. Within 30 seconds of hanging up with Ricky, the darn cable froze again. Argh!
True to his word, Ricky called back in a couple of hours and I informed him that the problem wasn’t solved, so he booked me an appointment with an actual service man who would stop by the house Tuesday afternoon.
Mysteriously, about an hour later, the problem seemed to correct itself and the cable was fine for the rest of the day, which meant I could watch the Blue Jays game without having to reboot my box 5 or 6 times!
I’m not cancelling my appointment for Tuesday though. I want this problem solved, once and for all.
