This morning on my way to work I had something happen that hasn’t happened that often, which is odd, considering the time of day I roll in to the station. I had a cop riding my tail. It’s rare that I see a cop car at all, let alone have one behind me.
I don’t care who you are, I’m sure everyone tightens up just a little bit when there’s a cop car behind you. Your mind starts calculating everything that could be wrong with your vehicle that could get you pulled over and ticketed.
I know I had a burned out tail light in the summer, but I got that fixed, so there’s no reason to pull me over for that. I was driving a little faster than the speed limit, which I always consider a good thing. If I was a cop, I’d be more suspicious about a vehicle driving 10 clicks below the speed limit at 3 o’clock in the morning than I would be about a vehicle driving a few clicks above it. I know I wasn’t swerving in my lane at all. Hey, all’s well! He’s not looking to pull me over, he just happened to be behind me.
The cop tailed me for a few blocks before turning off while I went straight ahead. Where was this guy all the times I drove behind someone that was swerving all over the road with one tail light burned out?
You know what they say, there’s never a cop around when you need one!
