The Saskatchewan country music scene will be on full display during the Saskatchewan Country Music Awards on April 28th. This year’s event will be held in Prince Albert and will be hosted by Jess Moskaluke. Two musicians from Kipling are among the nominees.
Alex Runions is up for Male Artist of the Year, Interactive Artist of the Year ,and Fans Choice Entertainer of the Year. He was also nominated for Group of the Year thanks to a special project he did with Dean Kush and JJ Voss called Brothers Wayward.
“We raised funds for cancer research and it was 35 thousand (dollars) plus that we raised with this campaign,” noted Runions.
He says he’s planning on taking in as much of the awards weekend as he can and will be participating in the songwriters cafe which takes place one day prior to the awards ceremony.
“It’s one big happy family, it’s great seeing everybody, and I’m always proud to see what everybody’s done throughout the year because everybody’s path is so different,” said Runions. “It’s so cool to see everybody there in good spirits.”
Another former resident of Kipling will be travelling with Alex to Prince Albert for the awards. Jordan Toppings is up for Keyboard Player of the Year and it’ll be his third year in the award show house band at the show.
“Jordan is a great guy and a really close friend of mine. Jordan and I have been playing together for probably 14, maybe 15 years now so it’s always good to see when he gets nominations as they’re very much deserved,” he smiled.
In addition to the SCMA’s, Runions will be performing at the Celebration Zone at the Mastercard Memorial Cup on May 19th and he just released a brand new song today (April 16th) entitled “AM DIAL.” The song revolves around two people who don’t want the night to end while blasting the AM radio.
