Canada’s Kirk Muyres and Laura Crocker kicked off the 2018 World Mixed Doubles Curling Championship with a comfortable 12-0 win over Ireland in Östersund, Sweden on Saturday morning.
The Canadian rink got out of the gates early as Muyres, who is from Saskatoon and Crocker got 5.
“It was exciting,” said Muyres afterwards to Curling Canada “Before the game, Jeff [Stoughton, coach] asked us if we were nervous and I said ‘yeah, I’m nervous and excited.’ That’s usually a good thing when you can get the butterflies rolling. We were excited to get out there – it was a couple days waiting and waiting for it. Definitely nervous throwing that first draw to the button but it was fun.”
The World Senior Curling Championship is also happening in Ostersund. Saskatoon’s Sherry Anderson is representing Canada after winning the 2017 Canadian senior women’s title. Anderson defended that crown earlier this year so she will be representing Canada again at the 2019 event.
