The Education Minister says restoring 30-million dollars into the system is a first step.
Gord Wyant’s brief address at the Saskatchewan Teachers Federation’s annual meeting in Saskatoon focused on working together to meet the needs of students.
Wyant understands the teachers’ position calling for additional money beyond the reinstatement of the entire 54-million clawed back in the 2017 budget.
“I appreciate the comments that the STF has made in terms of the requirement for more resources, and I agree with that,” Wyant says. “But I think we all need to do this in the context of a balanced budget, and we’ve made a commitment to balancing the budget. At the same time, I think we need to analyze what kind of further investments we need in public education and meet the needs of our students, and we’re going to be having that conversation.”
STF President Patrick Maze says teachers are encouraged Wyant appears willing to listen to their concerns.
