The NDP and the SaskParty government offer different counts on provincial job growth and creation rates during Question Period Tuesday.
NDP critic Vicki Mowat says Saskatchewan has the second worst job growth and worker income growth in Canada in the past year.
“We have slow employment growth in Saskatchewan right now,” she said. “We haven’t seen the minister acknowledging our slow employment growth. And we know it’s the slowest in the country outside of Newfoundland and Labrador.”
However, Trade minister Jeremy Harrison disagrees, saying the stats indicate otherwise.
“The reality is on average weekly earnings, over the course of the last decade, we’ve seen an increase of 38% in average weekly earnings, the second highest percentage growth in the entire country,” said Harrison. “Those are the facts.”
Harrison also noted the NDP’s support of a carbon tax would be a massive job killing mistake.
