The NDP is critical of the SaskParty government’s decision to cut the rental housing supplement.
Opposition leader Ryan Meili says the end of the rental housing support program on July 1st will hurt the poor and disabled.
He says rents have only dropped 7 dollars a month despite a high vacancy rate of rental housing.
Social Services minister Paul Merriman says SaskHousing has more than 3 thousand vacancies.
He says those already receiving the support will continue.
But new applications will not be accepted after July 1st.
He says a new federal program will be available to help those who can’t find affordable housing.
The NDP says there are no clear details of a new federal program to help with affordable housing.
