Alberta country music group The Dungarees are back with new music along with a few award nominations. I caught up with Robb Angus from the group to talk about their recent success and their their latest song “Don’t Hold Back.” The group is up for Country Recording of the Year for their song “Anywhere With You,” Group of the Year, and People’s Choice at the Edmonton Music Awards next month. Angus says it’s a real honour to be recognized in their hometown.
“Yeah it’s nice because the auditorium is full of all your friends and all your peers, so it’s a pretty special night for everyone I think, just to get to hang out and acknowledge each other,” said Angus. “It’s not very often we’re all in the same place, forget the same room or the same city, so for all us to get together it’s really a lot of fun.”
The group is also up for Country Artist of the Year at the Western Canada Music Awards at BreakOut West in Kelowna in October. Two Saskatchewan artists are also up for that same award, Jess Moskaluke and Blake Berglund.
The Dungarees just finished and extensive tour of Australia a short time ago and released a brand new song last week called “Don’t Hold Back.” The video features cameos from Clayton Bellamy, Dan Davidson, and Brandi Sidoryk of Nice Horse.
“It was a song we co-wrote with Darren Gusnowsky of Hey Romeo and it’s a nice fun, kind of pop-country song just about a guy and girl trying to hang in there and see if they can make something work without beating themselves up to much, so the music video has a boxing theme which we thought was kind of funny and we’re really proud of the song,” Angus explained.

Angus says this is the first song from an E.P. the group hopes to release this coming fall. You can hear our entire interview by clicking here.
